WHAT WE ARE ALL ABOUT

In 2002 martial arts was introduced in Kuujjuaq. Still running it promotes a positive and healthy way of life for both youth and adults in Kuujjuaq.

We are interested in finding outstanding young adults in the northern communities who would like to learn martial arts and teach the children of Nunavik. The S.M.A.R.T. program would provide technical and theoretical instruction to the trainers through a series of instruction sessions both in the communities of Nunavik and in Montreal.

With the support of the S.M.A.R.T. instructors these trainers will be an essential part of bringing martial arts instruction to Nunavik. The goal is to provide the S.M.A.R.T. trainers with the necessary tools both emotionally and physically to teach and support the youth and eventually run their own Martial Arts Classes within their communities. After seeing the positive results that the Martial Arts have received in Kuujjuaq it is the goal of the S.M.A.R.T. Program to spread the knowledge throughout the other communities of Nunavik as well.

A Smart trainer will not only work on the technical aspects of martial arts. Guided by the team of S.M.A.R.T. instructors the trainers will learn to develop a multitude of different competencies meant to help them be a successful S.M.A.R.T. trainer. For example, we will focus on; people skills, core values, commitment to learning, critical thinking, client satisfaction, habits of leadership, physical and nutritional competencies.

Funded and supported by the Kativik Regional Government, all S.M.A.R.T. trainers would be paid for their hard work and dedication to the program.
